The Toyota 4Runner is on sale now at Toyota of Urbana.
Definitely of the sport persuasion, the new Toyota 4Runner is a full-blown truck-based-SUV with capabilities that eclipse those found in car-based crossovers. Best of all, it's on sale now at Napleton's Toyota of Urbana.
What is the Toyota 4Runner?
The Toyota 4Runner is a family vehicle that is much more. It carries a standard passenger load of five but can increase to seven when ordered with the SR5 Premium or Limited trim packages. A two-seat third row handles the extra passengers. A superb 270 horsepower 4.0-liter V6 powers the 4Runner. It's linked to a very strong and functional five-speed automatic transmission.
Now in its 11th year, the Toyota 4Runner is available as a rear-wheel-drive or with optional all-wheel-drive. It is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds. It's the perfect adventure vehicle for the urban and suburban explorer and shines at the point the paved road ends and you end up going off-road instead. In that case, it handles the terrain just fine and enjoys almost ten inches of ground clearance when equipped with the Fox-sourced TRD-Pro suspension.

How does the Toyota 4Runner look?
Make no mistake about it: The Toyota 4Runner is a full-blown off-road machine that looks as tough as it really is. It's the perfect combination for hard-core off-roaders and a lot more comfortable than any off-roader whose name begins with a J.
Even the base SR5 features an angular front end that makes it look like an aggressive crab (Seriously! Look at it!) Featuring the Toyota badge in the upper grille opening, with a gaping opening under that, it is one that will turn heads wherever it goes. All trim levels include a roof rack and LED low beam headlights.
As for shapes, we'll be honest. The 4Runner breaks no ground stylistically, incorporating the tried and true features of the two-box design typical of most SUVs and station wagons. A new Trail Edition has 17-inch alloy wheels with a dark gray finish.
The all-wheel-drive TRD Pro is the most rugged of the bunch, with thicker skidplates, black-finished flow-formed wheels that are stronger than regular castings. They are shod with Nitto Terrain Grappler tires and a raised suspension with components by Fox.

What about inside the new 4Runner?
The interior of the Toyota 4Runner is old school, but that's not necessarily bad. Consider how modern interiors feature small buttons that don't work for those who wear gloves. These buttons are larger and more convenient to use even with gloves on. An easy to see instrument panel and an 8-inch touchscreen display incorporates Apple CarPlay/Android Auto/Amazon Alexa connectivity and offers an optional 120-volt outlet.
The seats are both supportive and comfortable enough for a cross-country trip. The rear seat offers the ability to recline or fold forward in a 40/20/40 split arrangement for cargo and passenger versatility. Fold them forward and you'll find almost 90 cubic feet in the rear cargo area, which is accessible by a lift hatch.

4Runner Features: Standard and Optional.
Despite being entry-level, there is nothing entry level about the 4Runner SR5. It includes LED low beams, LED foglights, heated mirrors, a wiper de-icer, skid plates, 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way adjustable driver's seat and the Toyota Safety Sense driver aids.
As mentioned previously, the base model's infotainment system is equipped with Android Auto, Amazon Alex, and Apple CarPlay.
Available options include an all-wheel-drive system for the SR5, Trail Edition and Limited versions. Step up to the TRD Pro for a 15-speaker JBL sound system, navigation and the off-road-oriented Fox suspension. Limited models step up to 20-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated leather-trimmed seats and an adaptive suspension.
Other trim levels include third-row seating and an off-road intended Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS).
Behind the wheel of the Toyota 4Runner
It's when the Toyota 4Runner leaves the road that it really begins to shine. It also makes it extra tough on the tarmac, but that might be a ride you appreciate. Well-calibrated, the 4Runner provides a quality ride. But if you step up to the off-road-oriented KDSS suspension, you'll find a piece of kit that actually works to improve the ride quality on-road, too.
The 4.0-liter V6 engine's power comes on smoothly and displays a refinement that some more expensive vehicles do not. When you are ready to leave the tarmac, you can do so with all the confidence in the world. This 4Runner will take you where you want to go and then safely back again.
