Brief Toyota Land Cruiser History

If you're not already familiar with the Toyota Land Cruiser, this is an iconic Toyota vehicle that was first introduced to the world in 1951. In fact, it is the the longest produced vehicle in Toyota's history. Over the years, the Land Cruiser has been produced as a convertible, hardtop, station wagon, and cab chassis body styles. The reliability, longevity, capabilities, and rugged-looks of the Toyota Land Cruiser have led it to be the extremely popular vehicle that it is today.

Some popular iterations of the Land Cruiser throughout the years includes the BJ, FJ, 20, 40 and 70 series.

The latest Land Cruiser updates things for the modern world while staying true to its heritage. On the front grille you will instantly recognize the large "TOYOTA" heritage badge. The new Land Cruiser 1958, which you can read more about below, is a back-to-basics homage to the original FJ25, with iconic round headlights and fabric seats. Then the Land Cruiser grade elevates the ride further with more trail-ready tech, leather-trimmed seating, and rectangular headlights inspired by the FJ62.

Whether you're a longtime fan of this classic Toyota vehicle or you're interested in owning your first Land Cruiser, we're confident this latest iteration won't disappoint.

What moves the Toyota Land Cruiser?

All Land Cruisers are powered by Toyota's i-Force hybrid 2.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder hybrid engine delivering a hefty 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. For those keeping score, this is more torque than the Cruiser's previous V8 engine. Credit the Land Cruiser's hybrid motor generator for the extra boost.

This engine matches to an 8-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive with Torsen limited-slip differential and active traction control. Equipped this way, the Land Cruiser can go almost anywhere. Take normal off-roading precautions and if possible enroll in an off-road experience school. If towing is in your wheelhouse, the Land Cruiser can tow up to 6,000 pounds.
