The Toyota Sienna now on sale at Napleton's Toyota of Urbana
Last upgraded in 2010, the new Toyota Sienna returns with an all-new look and design that takes it far away from the traditional-looking minivan. Featuring new styling and side sculpturing that is reminiscent of its Toyota Highlander sibling, it still manages to keep the added features that cause us to consider a minivan in the first place. But the Sienna goes even further: It is the first SUV to be offered exclusively as a hybrid. The Sienna is on sale now at Napleton's Toyota of Urbana.
What is the Toyota Sienna?
The Toyota Sienna is a traditional four-door minivan featuring four doors, including a pair of sliding side doors and a large liftgate at the rear. It is powered exclusively by a hybrid powertrain comprised of a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle inline 4-cylinder engine, which combines electric motor-generators with a gasoline engine to make a net rating of 243 horsepower. It feeds its power to the axles by a continuously variable transmission (CVT). For those drivers needing more traction than offered by the front-wheel-drive (FWD) system, the Sienna can be ordered in an all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration. Previously offered in a mechanical AWD arrangement, the new Sienna simply adds an electric motor-generator to the rear axle.
The Sienna features a completely new interior with second-row captain's chairs that slide forward and back up to 25 inches. Capacity is either 7- or eight passengers when using the removable seat that fits between the standard 2nd-row seats.
How does the new Sienna look?
More than ever before, the new Toyota Sienna Minivan features a sharply sculpted exterior. Gone is the look of Minivans past, with their big box-like proportions. Instead, you'll find a muscular vision with large sills that sweep up and over the wheel arches. Wraparound headlights flank a prominent hood that resembles the famous Japanese Bullet-train.
LED taillights wrap around the rear from the side panels into the rear liftgate. The tailgate also houses a top-edge spoiler.
What about inside the Sienna?
The Toyota Sienna interior features a new layered look dashboard that emphasizes the wide view presented to the driver and front-seat passenger. Set off by a large 9-inch touchscreen display, it offers easy access to the gearshift lever and storage bins, as well as a wireless charging pad. It's the perfect vehicle to carry all the family and all their things too!
Standard equipment includes a six-speaker AM/FM sound system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto/Amazon Alexa connectivity, seven USB ports, Bluetooth and voice command.
There are options, including a premium 12-speaker 1200-watt JBL Premium audio system, dynamic navigation, and WiFi-hotspot capability. A high-tech digital rearview mirror and 360-degree surround-view camera are standard on the Sienna Platinum model.
Seating comfort is apparent as soon as you get inside the new Sienna. Order the Platinum model with its ottoman seating option that allows you to recline with leg rests that rise from your seat fronts. Sliding doors and a low load height help the little ones enter, while push buttons ease their opening and closing. Once seated, they can take advantage of the rear-seat entertainment system with an 11.6-inch display and an available refrigerator. Afterward, they can clean up fallen french fries with an available onboard vacuum cleaner.
Remember, you can't drive your house, but you can always sleep in your Toyota Sienna.

This suite of safety items includes a dynamic radar active cruise control, pre-collision warning system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, automatic high beam headlights, a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.

Even though the Sienna might be short on power compared to some competitors, the instant torque from the electric motor-generators makes it impressively energetic right off the line. Its well-sorted chassis gives it a solid, smooth ride that manages to stay firm rather than floaty. Body motions are well-modulated, but it is a confident vehicle that does its best to pass the confidence on to you.
Fuel economy should be stellar for its class of vehicles.
The Sienna's interior borrows a certain vibe from its Toyota Highlander sibling. The "bridge dashboard" divides the vehicle into two zones, which offer cupholders within easy reach. Its large controls and touchscreen allow for easy access with a minimal amount of distraction for the driver.
