Toyota Corolla on sale now at Napleton's Toyota of Urbana.
Introduced in 1966, the Toyota Corolla has become one of the most popular and successful cars in the world. The latest, new Toyota Corolla is now on sale at Napleton's Toyota of Urbana today.
Redesigned in 2019, the Toyota Corolla has come back, stronger than ever before, more refined, refreshed and revitalized. Corolla's name is derived from Toyota's habit of naming sedans for Crowns. In Corolla's case, the name comes from the Latin for the "small crown."
Does it still have the goods? Let's take a look.

What is it about the Toyota Corolla?
The Toyota Corolla is a five-passenger vehicle available in a variety of configurations. With a sedan and hatchback body style, not to mention several trim levels, there are enough variations for almost every driver in the market today. There is a choice of two gasoline engines and a gas-electric hybrid capable of up to 53 miles per gallon.
By description, the engines cover a lot of ground. Standard power for the L, LE and LXE trim levels comes from a 1.8-liter inline-4 producing 139 horsepower @ 6,100 rpm and 126 lb-ft of torque @ 3,900 rpm. Next up is the more powerful 2.0-liter inline-4 found in the SE and XSE models making 169 horsepower @ 6,600 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm.
The Corolla Hybrid uses a variation on the base engine. Beginning with a 1.8-liter inline-4, and a 53-kW electric motor-generator that offers 121 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque combined energy. The result is economically efficient motivation that is good enough to provide 53/52 mpg.
The 1.8-liter engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 2.0-liter features a 6-speed manual transmission for those who like to row it themselves. For those who do not, check out the 2.0-liter's CVT transmission, which also uses a mechanical first gear and the regular CVT for improved feel and efficiency. All Corollas put the power to the pavement via Toyota's front-wheel-drive system.
How does the Toyota Corolla look?
Start with Toyota's trapezoidal mesh grille. Flanked on either side by LED daylight running lights, it carries a sophisticated character line that runs from front to rear. Standing at a distance of 20-feet or so away from the Corolla, squinting will cause you to think, "Honey, they've shrunk the Camry!" That's because the front end bears a passing resemblance to both the CamryĀ and the larger Avalon models.
Depending on the trim level, your Corolla will include a variety of differing looks. While all models feature a connected single taillight strip running across the rear, variations like the Corolla Sport will include a rear diffuser to emphasize the Corolla's wider stance.
Corolla SE models include an aggressive set of trim pieces like a dark gray front grille, while the limited edition Corolla Apex features a newer look that sets it far apart from other models in the range.

Looking inside the new Toyota Corolla.
Sensuous minimalism is the way Toyota describes the interior of the Corolla. Like most cars today, the interior's centerpiece is the infotainment touchscreen. On the base L trim level, that's a 7-inch screen, while it grows to an 8-inch display on higher models. There are physical buttons on this model, as well as volume and tuning knobs.
There is also a digital instrument cluster that includes a standard 4.2-inch display, while XLE, SE and XSE models include a 7-inch configurable display. Extra contoured seats are here, along with soft-touch material covering the interior's upper surfaces. A cloth interior is standard in the Corolla, which can be upgraded to SofTex leatherette.
Technology is also here and includes such items as the six-way adjustable driver's seat, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is also standard and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, radar cruise control with stop and go features on CVT models. Finally, Lane tracing assist helps keep you centered in your lane, while road sign assist recognizes signs even when you don't.
Options include the Corolla LE trim level, which improves upon the base model. Start with an 8-inch display, automatic climate controls, remote keyless entry. The Corolla SE model includes sportier features and an available 6-speed manual transmission for driving enthusiasts.
Finally, the XLE and XSE models include a power moonroof, power-adjustable driver's seats, alloy wheels, the larger instrument cluster and a JBL premium audio system. There's more, but it's quite a long list.Ā
Behind the wheel of the Toyota Corolla.
It's a new era and the Toyota Corolla is an entirely new car. Quiet, solid, agile. These are all words that you can use to describe the feelings you'll find inside the new Corolla.
The 1.8-liter 139 horsepower engine is suitable for most drivers. It's the perfect mix of power and economy and will provide miles and miles of enjoyment for buyers of the Corolla L, LE and XLE trim level models. Drivers who are more enthusiastic about their wheel skills will enjoy the 2.0-liter engine making 169 horsepower found in the SE and XSE model Corollas. The addition of 30 horsepower is clear from the start. Still, drivers will notice an immediate improvement because of the addition of an actual first gear that gets things rolling before the actual CVT takes over. And if that's not enough, buyers can take advantage of a 6-speed manual transmission for those who like to give their right arms and left feet a workout.
